Episode 48

Hometown Tales Podcast is a 30 minute show hosted by Gene and Bryan. It is a live show on U-stream that lasts exactly 30 minutes and is released every week or two. They look at local folklore and ghost stories as well as odd culture and interesting local legends etc... Pretty much anything is covered, with most episodes having a theme. It's not all just supernatural stuff though. They discuss anything....even small town restaurant stories. The last episode was about Blizzards and interesting stories related to that. The aim is to give you a scare or a laugh or for you learn something interesting. At over 300 episodes that they have been recording since 2005 there is a vast back catalogue to work through if you want....

You can find them on iTunes, or at http://www.hometowntales.com

Episode 49

This episodes comes courtesy of Darren and is the video podcast, Inside Gaming. It comes in on iTunes at 4 1/2 stars.

Part of the machinima.com group, it's a gaming video podcast, hosted by Adam Kovic (Dead Pixel) using the Halo Reach engine. They do however come from behind the mask (so to speak), when there is a games event on. Recently, they've done CES, Their own machinima awards, Blizcon and various other gaming conventions.

According to the iTunes writeup "Inside gaming is a Machinima.com weekly podcast that includes reviews and commentaries about the latest video games, this is normally a saturday and wednesday show, just as long as there is no special event. during the gaming award there were multiple a day. . Each show is around 5 - 10 minutes long, has the main news items, dlc , first look, occasionally a twitter/email section (you said section), and finally ending with "the best video ever"

This is a very tongue in cheek look at the gaming world, and very amusing and entertaining. There are far too many gaming podcasts where the hosts take it far to serious, this isn't one of them. This make me laugh out loud at least once in every show. I can't recommend it enough. They are looking at doing a daily show soon too.

This weeks is one of Andy's choices and is the Science Weekly Podcast by Alok Jhr brought to you by The Guardian Newspaper

It won the physics.org web awards

It is a podcast that looks at science and technology with guest experts from within the fields of topics being covered. However, it is all explained to their best abilities so as to not go “over the heads” of the average person.

Topics covered include-

Astrology

organic electronics

War as a consequence of climate change

How the decision to build the Large Hadron Collider was made
Etc...

A really interesting listen and well worth giving a go

EPISODE 51

This weeks podcast of the week is from Darren and it is Midlfe Gamer Podcast. It is a British presented podcast in which they talk about their current gaming and games of yesteryear. They are currently back on World Of Warcraft which Andy and Darren can relate to.

In fact, Darren says he seems to be able to relate to this gaming podcast the most. Charts are covered. Gaming News. Latest releases etc... You could say they get “balls deep” into gaming. Including a gaming soundtrack of your gaming life...

It can be downloaded from http://www.midlifegamer.net/ or from iTunes

Episde 53

Stuff You Should Know Podcast.
The SYSK site description reads
Why can't robots get married? Are exorcisms real? Listen in as the Stuff You Should Know takes a look at astonishing facts from across the globe in this podcast from Josh Clark and Chuck Bryant.
They have done episodes on Nuclear Meltdown, Fossils, Egyptian Mummies, The Mafia, Scooby Doo....all sorts of topics. Some more science based, some not so much. There is a good banter between the hosts which makes this a very entertaining and educational podcast to listen to. Example.....the Scooby Doo episde looked at the more serious side of the animating. How little movement resulted in cheaper and more mass produced cartoons starting a revolution in animation of it's time.......right upto discussing the Scoob and Shaggy theory of them being "dopeheads". Mixture of serious and lighthearted!

John Lenahan - The Prince of Hazel and Oak free audiobooks
John Lenahan is the first voice of Talkie Toaster who appeared at the latest Dimension Jump XVI. He is also an established author who has given his books away free in podcast format on podiobooks.
His first book was Shadow Magic which is followed by the sequel, The Prince Of Hazel And Oak. These books are very simple in language being aimed primarily at the teenage market. But, there is enough interesting story for all ages to enjoy.
Both can be found on iTunes or on Podiobooks website.
Shadowmagic can be downloaded at http://www.podiobooks.com/title/shadowmagic
The Prince Of Hazel and Oak can be found at http://www.podiobooks.com/title/the-pri ... el-and-oak

EPISODE 55

Never Buy A Stripper A Drink is episode 55's podcast of the week. People who know me from the Simply Syndicated forums may remember a forum member from a couple of years ago called Plform. His real name is Nick and he is one of the hosts of Never Buy A Stripper A Drink. He and the other hosts are also in a band called Letters To Voltran. A kind of comedy punk electro type band. They use this podcast to promote themselves and other bands who are members of Omega Prophet Promotions. Basically, it comes out most weeks and lasts about 1 and a half to 2 hours. And it's just them talking about getting drunk and what their weeks have been like. A good event of the week is called a finger in the A-hole. A bad event to the week is called a sack twist. They have regular guests on, usually from other nbands returning from tour with tour stories. Sometimes it is a couple of the ladies from the Rollerball Derby which is like a team females sports game which involves chasing, overtaking and blocking each other on a skate circuit. They once interviewed the owner of a porn house cinema...

It's lots of toilet humour and non politcally correct chat. The tagline is "erected weekly for your pleasure" which says a lot about what this podcast is....Sometimes, it's just what you need to lighten your working day.

US Pilot Episode

We met Dan at a podcasters meet up....and so, courteously, I tried the podcast. And I actually enjoyed it. (Just don't tell them)

Lee and Dans Midight Movie Club Podcast. It’s a podcast that reviews the kind of movies you end up staying up late at night to watch. Lots of 80’s and 90’s classic and along with lots and lots of cheesey movies. Dan we met at the meet up and, he’s a funny guy. It shows in his podcasts. Lee is Australian...but it doesn’t suffer because of it! Not much anyway.

You can find them on iTunes or at

midmoclub.com

Please, if you do subscribe, write a review for them...they hate the fact that we are in the iTunes charts still after 9 months off and they aren’t. But write at the bottom of the review “nearly as good as the Scuttercast”....just to keep us ahead. I’m sure DAN will appreciate that

INFINITY WELCOMES CAREFUL DRIVERS

How could I not go for Jared’s Star wars In Character suggestion. When I decided to do a podcast, the first subject that popped into my head that I wanted to talk about was Star Wars. Instantly followed by the thought “But the Forcecast is perfect. There’s no need for any other kind of Star Wars podcast”. And it is a for that reason that I have only listened to the Forcecast. So, seeing this suggested, I thought I would give it a go...and it is brilliant.

Each episode is around the hour mark give or take. The first part is a conversation about an obscure character from the 6 movies. So, Wattoo, Gammorrean Guards, the various Cantina aliens, Admiral Ozzel....even the ET’s that are in Phantom Menace. Each episode picks one character to talk about. Which films they appear in. How long they are on screen for. Any other storylines they have in the novels or comics...How they die etc...But the best thing about this, is that whilst being fans, they are not blind to the stupidity of some of the stories. So, you often get infectious fits of laughter at a characters fate or history. Usually deserved laughter too

After the character talk, we get the Star wars quiz. This is where a random question is generated for the hosts themselves. Some are dead easy and some are rock hard. And an ongoing score is kept between the hosts.

All I can say is that I didn’t expect to enjoy any other Star wars podcast as much as the Forcecast. But this one I do. So cheers to Matt and co. But especially cheers to Jared for bringing this to my attention. I would probably have never listened otherwise.

Just be aware. Whilst the swearing isn’t prolific, it does happen. May be an idea to listen away from the little kids ears...
