What do you drive ?

Got a pimped out ride, or a rusty old heap, here's the place.

Hi,

1993 - 1994 RIP Escort RS turbo, great car
1995 - 1997 RIP Escort RS turbo Cabrio conversion RIP (yuk, what was I thinking)
1998 - 2005 RIP MR2 Turbo, (Fantastic car) Only if you don’t know anyone or only shop using a basket.
2006 - 2009 RIP Vauxhall Vectra 2.2 Sri (modded with irmscher parts and halos etc)

Got hit in the rear by some loony at 30mph who said they did not see me stationary in the road. Had just spent £1800 on a rebuild due to the 50k dreaded timing chain fault that these engines have.

Can't complain too much have been driving around in an Alfa JDTM 2.4 159 for the last month. =P~ The blinking thing is a great all round car. Cant comment on long term reliability but it seems very well put together to me.

The hire car I have is not the exact same model but looks the same apart from the crome wing mirrors.

No Idea what to get when I get paid out, Want something with good looks, 4 doors and a bit of poke, RWD would be nice as well. They don’t seem to make many cars like that anymore.

Was looking at the MG ZT but cannot get away from the fact its based on the rover 75.

Was considering a Vectra C pre-facelift BUT only if I could get a 2.0t, chip it (225bhp like the Saab which uses the same engine) and source an irmscher i500 kit, as it turns out the kit is stupidly expensive and without it the vectra looks dull, dull. Post face-lift it’s quite nice but getting on the expensive side again.

Would love to purchase a 159 but at £14k for a 07 one its well out of my league.
Older RX8’s are dropping in price, but I am not sure about the wankle (did I spell that right?) engine.

Going to have to have a think about this. :-k

Some of you guys have had some very nice motors perhaps you have know a car that fits the bill which I have not thought of yet, but not Scoobys I like them but the other half for some reason does not.

You seem to have a good motor past. BassJunkie has a Vectra C SRi, not sure if its a pre face lift model tho. That along with the irmscher body kit looks very mean

I would avoid the MG myself as you said it's basically a Rover 75. The Alfa you have on hire is fantastic, very nice lookin car but Alfa's do have a bad name for reliability, that doesn't seem to bother petrol heads tho :)

I have only been driving for 2 years so have only had small cars but drove a new insignia and thats fantastic. Am a big fan of scooby but since it went into a hatch back (like all fast cars these days) I don't really like it anymore.

If you have a spare £25k you could stick with an RS with the new Focus RS out soon ha

Thanks for the advice,

Yea, the i500 kit does make the Vectra C very nice. Reminds me of the Lotus Carlton. :)

A Daewoo Nubira you say hmmm… I would give is serous consideration if it looked like the new model.

With regards to the insignia, (I have just realised the New Daewoo looks alot like the insignia! ) I would love to give it go with all the nice electronic toys it's meant to have. The motoring press have given it mixed reviews but Im not sure why that is. It seems that they dont want to like it but cant come up with any good reasons.

At the end of the day will most likely have to semi repair the vectra to get around in and keep saving until something nice falls into my price range.

Checked out the site as you suggested and you are right it is very good. I will have a good dig around for info over the next couple of days.

I think we have established that all family saloons now look the same. #-o Which was part of my dilemma in trying to find a 4-door car that looks good AND provides a good driving experience.

Oh yea, =P~ I don’t now if they make a RHD version of the Mustang but who care’s the car is a legend, its made me dig out my rip of Bullet and check out the chase scene between the Mustang and the Charger again.

Thanks again for the site suggestion.
